Experienced motorcyclists set ride to OCC

Motorcycle Experienced Mentorship Ride set for July 11

Personnel from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst safety agencies are planning an experienced Motorcycle Mentorship Ride to the renowned custom bike building headquarters of Orange County Choppers, Newburg, N.Y., on July 11.
The purpose of the Motorcycle Mentorship Program and safety-minded rides provide an environment where less experienced riders and seasoned riders can create a supportive environment of positive conduct and behavior that supports a commander’s motorcycle accident prevention program.

“This ride is designed for the experienced rider. An experienced rider should have more than six months of riding experience and must have completed one of the Motorcycle Cycle Foundation Courses in accordance with their military service specific requirements,” Thomas J. Steward IV, Fort Dix Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, said.

“As we prepare for our mid-season motorcycle mentorship ride please remember; motorcycling is more physically demanding than driving a car and exposes you to the environments, which can lead to fatigue,” Steward added.

This round-trip is 330 miles consists of various road conditions and is limited to 100 riders. It is expected to be comprised of four groups with the first group reporting to the joint base exchange parking lot at 5:30 a.m. The return time is about 6 p.m.

A motorcycle safety inspection will take place known as the TCLOCS Inspection- checking tires and wheels, controls, lights, oil, chassis and stand. The wearing of proper personal protective equipment is also required throughout the trip. A safety briefing and specific instructions will be provided, in addition to a Blessing of the Bikes.

To register for this event contact Steward at thomas.j.steward.civ@mail.mil or Jennifer Kenney at jennifer.kenney@us.af.mil to reserve space for the ride. The message needs to contain the riders full name, emergency point of contact information, MSF card date, and type of motorcycle such as cruiser, bagger, sport bike. Individuals will not be confirmed until they get an confirmation email containing a specific report time and group assignment information.
